Assignment Six

Jerry Uelsmann has composed many complex multiple negatives. His work requires long hours of dark room work. Unlike other photographers, Uelsmann incentive isn’t to create narratives but to rather produce “allegorical surrealist imagery of the unfathomable”.

Lucas Samaras is another influential multiple image photographer of our time. His work generally consisted of distorted self-portraits. Samaras created what he likes to call “Photo-Transformations” by playing around with the wet dyes in Polaroid photographic film. Before turning to photography Samaras worked in painting sculpture and performing arts.

Both Uelsmann and Samaras are considered to be “avant garde shattererers of the popular conception”.

Assignment Two

Edward Weston

Edward Weston was one of the most influential American photographer of the twentieth century. The bulk of Weston's carreer consisted of photographing still life images. Nudes, vegetables, rocks, shells and landscapes were a common subject. He composed thousands of extrodinary printed photographs that have continued to influence and inspire other artists and photographers around the world for fifty years. Some of Weston's most popular works include "Pepper #30", "Dunes, Oceano" and "Nude, 1936".A photographer and an associate of Westons', Ansel Adams, writes "Weston is, in the real sense, one of the few creative artists of today. He has recreated the matter-forms and forces of nature; he has made these forms eloquent of the fundamental unity of the world. His work illuminates man's inner journey toward perfection of the spirit."

Lee Friedlander

Lee Friedlander unlike Weston focued primarily on "social landscape" rather then simple and single objects. He photographs are more busy and complex. Begining his career in era suceeding Weston, his work depicts modern life. Pop-art posters, street signs, reflections, shadows, human relations or lack there of, urban life is a common subject in Friedlander's work. Friedlander also used the newly found means of entertainment, television, as source of light and as a subject in itself. He captured the action, drama and expression that the television emanated. The majority of Friedlander's photos are composed of densely packed images all isolated and framed within some sort of strong visual boarder. Through this method and style of photography, Friedlander is able to create a sense of order and harmony out of the chaotic means of everyday life.

By inserting the 2GB card (SD card) into the computer and then simply follow the steps as directed

A USB cord but I use an SD card instead

Approximately 2370 images on a 2megapixel resolution

How many high res images can you store on your disk?
Up to 672 images on the highest resolution
